The Roy Dog of Portland
This glass bead embroidery was inspired by one of my favourite local folktales: The Roy Dog of The Isle of Portland. It was once rumoured that a huge and terrible beast roamed the Isle of Portland late at night, hunting lonely travellers. It would then drag its victims back to its cave in the rock near the lighthouse, pluck out their eyes, and adorn its shaggy black coat with them. I suspect the tale was told to keep outsiders from wandering too close to caves filled with illegally smuggled contraband.
